Gig Theatre is a cross between a live music show and a stage theatre production.
In a Pianorocketship production, the show's story is told and unfolds through song, sung narration, spoken word, theatrical action and direct address.
Songs, peppered throughout, are accompanied live on a keyboard (often vintage Rhodes). The theatrical action is accompanied by backing tracks. All singing and speaking is performed live.
Expect rhyming; wordplay; philosophical meanderings; absurd lectures; magical realism; odd characters; masks; costumes; props and so on.
Musical influences include jazz, blues, rock, singer-songwriter, improvisational/ experimental and avant-garde.
The Fourth wall is very porous.
Who are shows for?
Misfits, oddballs, eccentrics, artists and creatives; also, fans of stories, fantasy, science fantasy, magical realism and steampunk; people who love a show that is both theatre and music; fans of gig theatre and also fans of funkiness.
