Gig Theatre is a cross between a live music show and a stage theatre production.
Companies have their own version of this genre. In my interpretation, the show is a story, which is told and unfolds through songs, sung and spoken narrative; live music from a Rhodes vintage piano ( or piano or other keyboard); prerecorded backing tracks.
Expect rhyming; wordplay; philosophical meanderings; absurd lectures; magical realism; odd characters; masks; costumes; props and so on.
Musical influences include jazz, blues, rock, singer-songwriter, improvisational/ experimental and avant-garde.
Who are shows for?
Misfits, oddballs, eccentrics, artists and creatives; also, fans of stories, fantasy, science fantasy, magical realism and steampunk; people who love a show that is both theatre and music; fans of gig theatre and also fans of funkiness.
